ดอก ออกเป็นช่อง่ามใบ ช่อหนึ่งมี 3-7 ดอก กลีบดอกสีเหลืองติดกันเป็นหลอด ส่วนปลายแยกเป็น 5-6 กลีบ ผล รูปร่างและขนาดมีได้ต่าง ๆ กัน ส่วนใหญ่กลม กลมรีหรือกลมแบน มะเขือเทศเป็นพืชอบอุ่นและแสงแดด ผลเมื่อยังดิบมีสีเขียว แต่เมื่อสุกเต็มที่แล้วมีสีแดงอมส้มถึงแดง ผิวนอกเรียบเป็นมัน มีเนื้อฉ่ำน้ำ ภายในมีเมล็ดจำนวนมาก
การใช้ในเครื่องสำอางและสรรพคุณทางยา
บำรุงผิวหน้าให้อ่อนนุ่มสดใส
ใสสตรีนิยมใช้น้ำมะเขือเทศสดพอพอกหน้าหรือใช้มะเขือเทศสุกฝานบาง ๆ แปะลงบนใบหน้า เนื่องจากวิตามินหลายชนิดในมะเขือเทศจะช่วยบำรุงผิวหน้าให้อ่อนนุ่ม สดชื่น นอกจากนี้น้ำจากผลมะเขือเทศสุกที่คั้นใหม่ ๆ ใช้ทำความสะอาดผิว ทำให้เนียนนุ่ม โดยนำผลมะเขือเทศมาบดให้ละเอียด เติมน้ำมะนาว 2-3 หยด ขั้นตอนการใช้เริ่มจากการล้างหน้าให้สะอาด ทาครีมสำหรับใบหน้า วางชั้นสำลีแห้งบาง ๆ แล้วปิดด้วยสำลีที่ชุ่มน้ำมะเขือเทศที่เตรียมไว้ ทิ้งไว้ 15 นาที เอาสำรีออกแล้วทาครีมอีกครั้ง และเช็ดออกให้สะอาด ด้วยสำลี ชุบน้ำมะเขือเทศ
ผลมะเขือเทศนิยมใช้เป็นผักสด ผลไม้ ประกอบอาหารหรือทำซอสมะเขือเทศ น้ำมะเขือเทศเป็นเครื่องดื่ม
การรับประทานผลสดที่มีไลโคปีน ซึ่งคุณสมบัติเป็นแอนติออกซิแดนท์ (antioxidant) ลดการเกิดมะเร็ง จึงเหมาะสำหรับผู้ที่เสี่ยงต่อการเกิดมะเร็งต่อมลูกหมาก
