ชื่ออังกฤษ henna tree , sinnamomo,Egyptian private
ชื่อท้องถิ่น เทียนย้อม เทียนไม้ (ไทย) เทียนป้อม เทียนต้น (กลาง)
ลักษณะทางพฤกษศาสตร์
เป็นไม้ยืนต้นสูง 30-50 เซนติเมตรแตกกิ่งก้านมากใบเดี่ยวเรียงตรงกันข้ามรูปวงรีกว่าง 1-2 เซนติเมตรยาว 3-4 เซนติเมตรเนื้อใบค่อนข้างแข็ง ดอก ช่อออกที่ปลายกิ่ง มีดอกทั้งปี ดอกย่อยขนาดเล็ก มีสองพันธุ์คือพันธุ์ดอกขาวและพันธุ์ดอกแดง ผล ผลเป็นผลแห้งแตกได้ รูปกลมสีเขียวแกจัดจะเปลี่ยนเป็นสีน้ำตาลอ่อน
การใช้เครื่องสำอางและสรรพคุณยา
เทียนกิ่งหรือเฮนน่า เป็นสมุนไพรที่ย้อมผมกันมานานชาติที่นำมาย้อมผมเป็นชาติแรกคือ อียิปต์ เทียนกิ่งเมื่อใช้ย้อมผมจะทำให้ได้ผมสีไปทางสีแดงหรือสีแดงปนส้มนอกจากย้อมผมแล้วยังใช้ย้อมเล็บ ฝ่ามือ และฝ่าเท้านางระบำด้วยนอกจากนี้ยังพบว่าในเทียนกิ่งมีฤทธิ์ต้านเชื้อแบคทีเรียและเชื้อราบางชนิด สารสกัดเอทานอล 95 % มีฤทธิ์ต้านการอักเสบ สารสกัดใบเทียนกิ่งด้วยน้ำมีฤทธิ์ทำให้มดลูกบีบตัว ได้มีผู้ทดสอบความเป็นพิษของใบเทียนกิ่งในคนพบเมื่อให้รับประทานคนละ30 กรัมไม่พบว่าเป็นพิษแต่ถ้าให้ไปนานๆจะมีอาการเบื่ออาหาร และมีอาการเคลื่อนไหวของลำไส้มาก และเมื่อทดสอบในสุนัขก็ไม่ปรากฏอาการพิษจะเห็นว่าการการใช้ใบเทียนกิ่งย้อมผมจึงค่อนข้างปลอดภัย
ย้อมผม
ใช้ใบเทียนกิ่งตากแห้ง 8-12 หมักในน้ำชาจีน 1 คืน ตอนเช้าเติมกาแฟ 1 ช้อนชา ไข่แดง 1 ฟอง คนให้เข้ากันชโลมให้ทั่วเส้นผมทิ้งไว้ 2- 3 ชั่วโมงจึงล้างออกทำซ้ำๆกันหลายๆครั้งจะได้ผมสีดำหรือน้าตาลอมแดง
